Enjoying the Good Days/Making it through the Bad Days
Acknowledging that there are some good days helps us make it through the inevitable bad days. Fortunately, it’s never all bad. Journaling can help us remember those good days so on a difficult day, we can look back and find something to laugh about or remember how loving and kind someone on the medical staff was, or just to be grateful that today we have choices. We will explore the cathartic, healing release of journaling and have an opportunity to practice it.
Also discussed in the “Making it Through the Bad Days” portion will be ways to reduce stress, having a plan B when today is not an A day, the value of having a mentor and support group, and how to use what Janet calls “Sanity Tools” to help us through those forgetful, frustrating days.
In the “Enjoying the Good Days” segment, we will look for those humorous moments and opportunities to laugh and be happy in the midst of our trial. How is it that so many women, like Grace, say: “Breast cancer was a transforming life experience. I would not change what I have gained from my battle. Strange to say—but it has been a gift in my life.”?
There will be time for interaction, sharing, and asking questions.

Friendships on the Journey
There is nothing like having a friend to help you go through a difficult time in life. Janet will share the story of special new friends she made and her best friend who rallied to the cause after first wanting to walk away from Janet’s difficult diagnosis. There is nothing like being around someone who has “been there done that and made it through” to give you hope that you can make it too. Finding a mentor, even when a friend is not available, could be just what you need to encourage you that you are going to see this journey out to the end. It might be possible for Janet to have one of these special friends also share with her during this talk. That can be discussed at the time of booking the speaking engagement.

Why Me? And How to Find Purpose in Your Breast Cancer
It’s the question we all ask. We can’t help it. We want to know out of all the people we know, why did this happen to us? Janet will share her own journey through that question and how God turned it around to “Why not me?” and “God thank you that it was me.” She will also explore with the audience some practical, spiritual, and emotional ways to find purpose in this dreaded disease. We will answer together the question: How can we as Christians use our breast cancer to God’s glory?
